Man lands Valentine's date after advertising himself on a billboard

A single man has managed to bag himself a Valentine’s date – after spending more than £400 to advertise himself on a billboard.

Mark Rofe took the drastic measure after becoming fed up with online dating, and seeing all his close friends get married.

The 30-year-old bought the ad space in Manchester – and has since had more than 2,000 applications – including one (he claims) from Maya Jama.

Announcing the news on Twitter, he said: “It feels odd sharing my love life, but since people keep asking. I do have my first date arranged for Valentine’s Day.

“I thought the best approach would be to break it down and go through the applications bit by bit, and I’ve started with the first 100 so far.”

Mr Rofe closed the applications after 2,363 people signed up.

In response he posted on his website: “I’ve had over 2,000 people apply to go on date with me, from all over the world. I honestly never expected such an incredible response – thank you!

“This was never about how many people I could get to apply to date me, so I’ve decided to close applications because I am confident that the person for me is among those that have already applied (and I WILL find you).”

So if things do not work out tonight – he still has a few more potential Mrs Rofes.
