Man City team news: Predicted 4-3-3 line up vs Southampton – Aguero in, Sterling out

Manchester City will likely field a rotated XI to play Southampton in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Tuesday evening.

Manager Pep Guardiola is expected to give his younger players a run out as Southampton look to bounce back from their 9-0 thrashing at home to Leicester last Friday.

City, on the other hand, beat out Aston Villa 3-0 on Saturday with relative ease.

But Guardiola isn’t taking Southampton lightly, despite their torrid performance against Leicester.

“I am not going to judge them on that or prepare to play against them based on what happened against Leicester,” said Guardiola. “They will try to do their best.”

“It’s not easy but they are incredible professionals. The manager will be sad for a moment – for one night – but after that they have to move forward.

“We know the team Leicester are. it was not easy.

“But it’s different competitions – the Carabao Cup and the Premier League. And we will try [to prepare] to face good teams.”

Claudio Bravo will likely start in goal, after playing against Preston in the previous round while Eric Garcia could play in central defence alongside Nicolas Otamendi.

John Stones and Benjamin Mendy will likely be rested and with Oleksandr Zinchenko out with injury, Angelino could start in his place.

On the opposite, Kyle Walker is expected to play, while Ilkay Gundogen, Kevin de Bruyne and Phil Foden should make up City’s midfield.

And in the attacking positions, Raheem Sterling may be rested as he played against Villa but Riyad Mahrez is likely to keep his place on the left.

Bernardo Silva may play on the right while Sergio Aguero starts up front instead of Gabriel Jesus.
