Manchester City are set to test Aston Villa’s resolve over Jack Grealish by offering £75m plus add-ons for the England star, but the Villains are prepared to turn it down.
The Daily Mail report that Villa are holding out for a nice round £100m for their captain and are happy to reject any less.
In fact, Villa are hoping to take Grealish’s mind off a move entirely by offering him a new contract worth around £150,000-a-week.
The 25-year-old only signed his current deal at Villa Park last year, with the deal running until 2025, but his employers are hoping another new one will ward off the interest from City.
Grealish is currently on holiday, due back this week, and is due for talks with Villa over his future, hoping to have it sorted out by next week, reports the Daily Mirror.
The midfielder has not made public any desire to leave Villa, despite near constant speculation over his future for years, but this may change if a bid from the Premier League champions comes in.
Villa manager Dean Smith has not commented recently, but as speculation swirled at the end of last season, he felt that Grealish was committed to the project ongoing at the club.
‘I’ve not risen to any speculation regarding Jack at all this season – he has been injured for the last 12 games,’ said Smith in May.
‘He signed a brand new contract having seen the vision for the club from the owners at the start of the season.’
