MANCHESTER CITY have officially activated Rodri’s £63million release clause at Atletico Madrid.
The highly-rated midfielder will be Pep Guardiola’s first addition to his Premier League winning squad this summer.
A holding midfielder has been a priority for Guardiola for over a year to help ease the load from 34-year-old Fernandinho.
The City boss thought he was getting Jorginho last year but the Italian opted to follow his then Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea.
And now the 23-year-old Spain international is on his way to the Etihad, a year after moving to the Wanda Metropolitano from Villarreal last year for just £18m.
Atletico confirmed the news on Wednesday and City are now free to agree personal terms and organise a medical.
