Malnourished kitten who was only one from her litter to survive finds forever home

Lulu was rescued as a tiny malnourished kitten weighing less than a punnet of strawberries.

Her bones protruded through her skin when she arrived at Best Friends Felines, an Australian animal charity in Brisbane.

She was brought to them by a vet nurse who said Lulu had been surrended by previous owners to be put to sleep, along with her brothers and sisters who had all sadly died.

The kittens were all so starved, they’d started eating eachother’s fur, according to the charity.

Tiny Lulu was covered in bald patches, worms and fleas and weighed less than 300g – about half the body weight she should be for a kitten of her age.

The malnutrition had affected her organs and her rescuers knew the odds of her surviving were low.

She was treated and nursed back to health by those at the charity and slowly, she started to recover.

Speaking to Bored Panda, Kiki, who helped to care for Lulu said: ‘Arriving at my home and seeing the tiny and fragile shell the vet nurse lifted out of the carrier just broke my heart as she was so failed by her owners to allow her to get to this state.

‘She was tiny but mighty with such a will to fight to live.’

After months of caring for her, Kiki was well enough to be adopted and went on to find her forever home.

She now lives with her owner Reece, has been renamed Ciri, and is thriving despite her rough start in life.
