MAKING a Murderer’s Kathleen Zellner has returned to Netflix in gripping true crime drama Dream/Killer.
The streaming service has just released the documentary about Ryan Ferguson, who was wrongly convicted of the murder of Kent Heitholt in 2001.
Defence attorney Zellner, who is still working on the Steven Avery case, led the team that freed Ferguson after he spent a decade behind bars.
The series follows the lawyer as she takes on the “disturbing” case after he was sentenced to 40 years in prison for murder and armed robbery.
There was no physical evidence linking then 17-year-old Ferguson to the killing, but it took a jury less than six hours to find him guilty when he was aged 20.
Ferguson was convicted after his pal Charles Erickson ‘dreamt’ he had committed the murder.
Erickson had been partying with Fergusson that night and implicated his friend when he confessed.
But Ferguson’s father Bill was determined to prove his son’s innocence.
He spent years gathering paperwork, new evidence and tracking down witnesses.
In 2009, Zellner stepped in and offered to take on the case pro bono because she believed Bill’s son was innocent.
She argued that there were seven other sets of fingerprints at the crime scene.
She managed to get Ferguson’s case to the oral argument, which they attempted in Brendan Dassey’s appeal process.
The documentary, titled Dream/Killer shows fans footage from Ferguson’ police interviews, news coverage of his trial and interviews with Zellner.
Ryan Ferguson says in the trailer: “They can take your freedom, they can take you and put you in a cell for nothing. They can’t take my mind.”
Zellner makes a chilling statement and says: “I know a lot of people think, ‘oh this could never happen me.
“Trust me, this could happen to you.”
Dream/Killer, which was first released in 2015, is available to watch on Neflix now.
