Make microwave chocolate brownies in five minutes – with just five ingredients

It’s fair to say we’re all due a bit of a treat – and everything tastes better when it’s been slaved over by our own fair hands.

With us all on coronavirus lockdown, we might as well spend our time cooped up trying a few new things – and what better way to pick up our spirits than baking some delicious brownies.

With just five ingredients, two steps, one mug and the use of a microwave, it couldn’t be more simple.

There’s a good chance you already have all of the ingredients in your cupboard if you’ve already been partaking in some lockdown baking, but you will need some cocoa powder for this one.

The recipe, shared on BBC Good Food, has earned five star reviews and takes just minutes to make – so it’s certainly worth a go.

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 tablespoons of flour
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of cocoa power
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons of milk (although others recommend an extra spoon to make it more gooey)

Begin by melting the butter and mixing all the ingredients in a microwavable mug with a fork (you can even throw in some chocolate chips if you’ve got some in your cupboard). Be sure to scrape the bottom and sides.

Place the mug in the microwave and cook until it’s moist in the middle. It should take about 1min 45 seconds on 750 watt, 1min30 on 850 watt and 1min15 on 950 watt.

Once it’s done, leave to on the side for two minutes to continue to cook and cool.

Then all that’s left is to dig in – adding some ice cream if you’re truly living the lockdown in style.

Others loved the final results after trying it out for themselves, with a couple suggesting adding a touch more milk to give it a more gooey consistency.

One said: “Brilliant – just use a bit more milk more like 3tbsp and I have a 1000w fan and I do it for 1m 10 sec and it’s amazing. Also make sure you properly melt the butter.”
