Maisie Williams: Game of Thrones actress addresses the Queen’s thoughts on Iron Throne

Maisie Williams spilled the beans on what happened when the Queen came face-to-face with the Iron Throne from HBO epic Game of Thrones, while appearing on popular YouTube series First We Eat with host Sean Evans.

He asked the 22-year-old, who played Arya Stark on the hit show: “Is it true that when Queen Elizabeth visited you guys on set she refused to sit on the Iron Throne because of an esoteric rule barring her from sitting on a foreign seat of state?”

The actress explained that while she didn’t point blank refuse, she did make a little joke on why she wouldn’t sit on the legendary set piece.

Maisie said: “She didn’t necessarily refuse no one said, ‘Sit on that chair because it is going to be funny.’

“We all just sort of smiled and were like, is she going to do it?

“She sort of looked and said, ‘That doesn’t look very comfy’ – comfortable she wouldn’t have said comfy, God it’s Queen Elizabeth!”

The Queen visited the Belfast set of GoT back in June 2014 along with Prince Philip during a three-day state visit of Northern Island.

In the throne room set she met several cast members including Maisie, Kit Harrington (who played Jon Snow) and Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister).

It was reported at the time that Her Majesty had inspected the throne but indeed passed on taking a seat.

Maisie also let on during her First We Eat interview some of the pranks Game of Thrones producers and writers played on the cast.

As she tucked into chicken wings topped with progressively spicier sauces, she described how GoT honchos would sometimes provide mock character deaths to the actors.

She said: “Yeah that’s true they did that. They told Alfie Allen he was killed by Bran in a really anticlimactic way but then they didn’t tell Isaac [Hampstead Wright] about the joke, so he texted him about it and was like, ‘It’s cool about that, you know man.’

“And then Isaac was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about’.

“They did another one on Kit Harrington where they said he got really aggressively mauled on the face and he was going to have a huge disfigurement on his beautiful chiselled jaw.

“That one was quite funny! Poor guy!”

The small screen favourite also talked on her tech endeavour, Daisie. The social media app, which raised £2 million, is designed to bring creative people together and allow projects to be shared.

She said of the talent discovery app: “It is for people that are up and coming. That have a great idea but just don’t have the contacts with people that can help you do that.

“Because it’s all about collaboration you know.”

The actress has several exciting acting projects in the works also, including Sky series Two Weeks to Live.

In the series, which is due to air next year, Maisie stars as Kim Noakes who abandons a secluded life in the country to honour her deceased father’s memory.
