MAFS' Nic Jovanovic slams Cyrell Paule for criticising him amid cancer battle

He was diagnosed with testicular cancer for a second time last year, shortly after filming Married At First Sight.

And Nic Jovanovic, 28, says his recent health battle has put his messy break-up with Cyrell Paule into perspective – and believes it’s time for her to back off.

The 28-year-old electrician told TV Week on Monday he’s had ‘enough to deal with’ in recent months and is sick and tired of Cyrell’s drama.

‘I know whatever I’m going through has nothing to do with our relationship and the show, but it’s disappointing,’ Nic said.

‘I’ve got enough to deal with. After chemo I was exhausted; my body was shutting down and I’ve had to deal with her.’

Before Nic went public with his second cancer diagnosis, Cyrell had vowed to ‘expose’ the truth about him and repeatedly criticised him during interviews.

It comes after Nic spoke to 9Honey on Monday about his second testicular cancer diagnosis.

The Newcastle-based tradesman, who battled the disease four years ago, said he first noticed his left testicle had shrunk around December 2018.

By Christmas time, he discovered a ‘semi-hard kind of lump’ on the testicle, which prompted him to consult a doctor.

At the time, Married At First Sight had just finished production and the cast had yet to return to film the reunion.

Reflecting on the shock diagnosis three months ago, Nic said: ‘I couldn’t believe it. Four years later… there was so much going on in my life, for it to come back, I’m still in shock that it came back.’

He added: ‘You think being that young and having dealt with it once, surely that’s it.’

Nic, who first discovered the abnormality while checking his testicles in the shower, said he experienced feelings of disbelief and helplessness after the diagnosis.

‘How does it come back? Why? What have I done to deserve this? What have I done? What am I doing wrong?’ he recalled asking himself.

Remarkably, Nic delayed undergoing surgery by a week so he could film scenes for Married At First Sight.

When he eventually went in for the procedure, MAFS had already premiered and nurses at the hospital recognised him from the show.

Today, Nic is cancer free thanks to the surgery and two rounds of chemotherapy.

Before that procedure, he froze his sperm which has allowed him to have children in the future if he so chooses.

Nic and Cyrell left the social experiment on bad terms before the final commitment ceremony. They will return to the show for the reunion episode in the coming weeks.

Married At First Sight continues Monday at 7:30pm on Channel Nine
