Madonna reveals she is writing a movie with Diablo Cody but remains coy about subject matter

Madonna is making some changes in her music career, but she hasn’t abandoned her cinematic pursuits, either.

The peerless performer, who turns 62 next week, was seen on Instagram on Friday hard at work with Diablo Cody, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of the 2007 gem Juno.

In the black-and-white video, Madonna sits on the couch as Diablo, 42, types away on a laptop.

The Queen of Pop, who made headlines recently after leaving Interscope for a new recording contract back at Warner Records where she first started out, captioned the clip:

‘When you’re stuck in a house with multiple injuries what do you do? Write a screenplay with Diablo Cody about…?’

But before the question mark, Madge put the emojis for an open book, followed by symbols pertaining to filmmaking and music.

This, of course, could lead to all types of speculation – like, for instance, Madonna is perhaps taking charge and getting in on the musical biopic trend and choosing to write her own big cinematic biography before somebody else does.

Similar films about contemporaries such as Freddie Mercury (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Elton John (Rocketman) have earned rave reviews as well as Oscars, and movie biopics about stars like Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston are on the way.

Further bolstering this theory is the fact that in the clip, the pair of creators discuss points from Madonna’s starry, decades-long career, as they sit in front of a table covered in carefully laid out journals and notebooks.

One topic they touch upon is Madonna’s gorgeous Gaultier-designed look from the Express Yourself era in the late ’80s and 1990 ‘Blond Ambition’ tour, replete with the infamous cone bra she sported.

‘The garters were over the suit bottoms, right?’ Cody asks her Madgesty in the snippet.

‘Yeah,’ Madonna answers. ‘Straight pin-striped pants sit beneath the corset, it’s cut high-waisted on the leg, the garters come down here, cone bra zipped up the front and then the double-breasted suit coat goes over it.’

Madonna is rather playful in the video, reminding Diablo that ‘all these details are important’ when it comes to things like music selection in their secret film project.

And as with most of Madonna’s partnerships, choosing to work with Cody is a smart move – in addition to winning an Oscar her first time out as screenwriter for the Ellen Page-starring Juno 13 years ago, Diablo is also responsible for such underrated films as the Megan Fox horror Jennifer’s Body in 2009, and the brilliant, biting Young Adult starring Charlize Theron two years later.

As for Madonna, her journey in Hollywood has seen some glorious highs, as well as some forgettable lows.

She won a Golden Globe for Best Actress – Comedy or Musical for Evita in 1997, and also turned in excellent performances in films such as 1985’s Desperately Seeking Susan and A League Of Their Own in 1992 – the latter of which is being made into an Amazon series with Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson.

But Madonna also found herself in sub-par noir films such as Body Of Evidence and Dangerous Game in the early ’90s, to name a few.

Also the subject of the superior 1991 tour documentary Madonna: Truth or Dare, the Ray Of Light hitmaker has additionally served as director on two films – 2008’s Filth And Wisdom, and W.E. in 2011.
