Madonna quips her ‘fake British accent’ is ‘Guy Ritchie’s fault’

Madonna has hilariously addressed the “fake British accent” she occasionally used in the past, blaming her English twang on her ex-husband Guy Ritchie.

The star made her comments as she took the stage for her first night at the London Palladium on Wednesday (January 29), after being forced to cancel the original opening night due to an ongoing injury.

The intimate Madame X performances give fans a rare chance to see the pop icon up close and personal, and include sections where she speaks to audience members.

As reported by the BBC, the 61-year-old marked her return to the capital by addressing her old accent, which she frequently slipped into in the noughties.

She said: “I didn’t know what anyone was talking about until I heard old interviews of myself and then I was horrified and flabbergasted. Why did you let me do that to myself?

“It’s all Guy Ritchie’s fault,” she added. “He made me do it.”

Madonna married the film director in 2000, in a lavish ceremony in a Scottish castle, just months after welcoming their son, Rocco Ritchie.

During their marriage, the couple lived in the UK, owning a London home and a Wiltshire estate.

They adopted a second son, a baby boy named David, in 2005.

Madonna filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, in 2008.
