The Queen of Reinvention and the rap legend have worked together on tracks before – and now Madge wants to enlist Kanye again for a new RnB album akin to her 1994 classic
Madonna is trying to tempt Kanye West back into the recording studio to work with him once again – and with the aim of making the spiritual sequel to her classic RnB infused album Bedtime Stories.
The 63-year-old Queen of Reinvention performed with the 44-year-old rapper in 2008 on a track titled Beat Goes On from her Hard Candy album – and Kanye produced a number of tracks on her 2015 album, Rebel Heart.
Now Madge wants to work with Ye on a brand new album that will be filled with RnB tunes – a genre that she first immersed herself in back in the 1990s.
The Lucky Star legend and the Jesus Walks rapper were spotted out partying together in Los Angeles last week and are said to have hatched a plan to work on a new record together.
A source told The Sun: “Madonna and Kanye talked about collaborating again and she expressed interest in exploring R&B again, after doing the same with BabyFace on her 1994 album Bedtime Stories.”
On top of working with Kanye in the past, Madonna has praised his recent work – hailing his latest album, Donda, the stand out record of 2021.
She told V Magazine last year: “The only thing that I’ve heard recently that has inspired me is Kanye’s record Donda.
“I can’t say that I agree with all of his politics and the way that he thinks of women, or unmarried people having sex, or the gay community.
“But his work is on the razor’s edge, and it’s inspiring and it’s rare.
“Everybody was waiting so long for his record to come out and then finally when it came out, everybody else’s record came out, too. And he still stood out.”
Madonna’s own last album, titled Madame X and inspired by her life while living in Portugal, was released in 2019 and despite receiving positive reviews from critics, and topping charts around the world, it is her lowest selling album.
Bedtime Stories was a critical and commercial success for Madge, selling over 8 million copies around the world and including timeless singles such as Human Nature and Secret.
As well as collaborating with RnB producer Babyface on the album, Madonna also worked with Bjork on the album’s title song.
Meanwhile, former collaborator Nile Rodgers of Chic fame has made no secret of the fact he would love to work with Madonna again.
The pair worked on arguably some of her biggest hits – as the 69-year-old produced all but one song on her 1984 album Like A Virgin which included the title song and smash single Material Girl.
Speaking to Metro in the past, Nile said: “I adore Madonna. If she ever wants to work, I am totally down.
“For a gazillion years I have always said she is the hardest-working person I have ever worked with. She is the most dedicated. The most focused and I absolutely adore her.”
