Singer M.I.A has revealed she’s rather death than be vaccinated amid the coronavirus crisis, as experts work to produce a Covid-19 vaccine amid the deadly pandemic that’s killed thousands around the world.

Seemingly implying she was an anti-vaxxer, the 44-year-old said she was against immunising against potentially-deadly diseases after her 11-year-old son Ikyhyd suffered a bad reaction when he was a young child.

Now, as many are hospitalised and health services are facing immense stress with not enough ventilators to help those with unbearable symptoms, M.I.A. has shared her stance on a potential vaccine.

She tweeted on Wednesday: ‘If I have to choose the vaccine or chip I’m gonna choose death.’

‘In America they made me vaccinate my child before the school admission,’ she added in a now-deleted tweet, after one fan called her an ‘anti-vaxxer’. ‘It was the hardest thing. To not have choice over this as a mother. I never wanna feel that again. He was so sick for 3 weeks then Docs had to pump him with antibiotics to reduce the fever from 3 (sic).’

However, many fans were outraged by her comments, with one trying to slide in some subtle musical shade: ‘This tweet has disappointed me more than your last 2 albums.’

Another slammed her vaccine stance, and added: ‘Well it was fun following you while it lasted.’

Using the tag #donewithmia, a follower replied: ‘With your choice you also choose death for other people then, so very wrong.’

M.I.A. – whose real name is Mathangi ‘Maya’ Arulpragasam – insisted people are ‘not gonna die’ from coronavirus and don’t need to ‘stress the medical systems’ if they fall ill.

She continued in her thread: ‘Have a healthy life! Don’t live in fear

‘Don’t panic you are ok. You are not gonna die. You can make it without stressing the medical systems. Just breathe. You are going to be ok. You can make it through without jumping in the frying pan. You are fine ..’

Not that M.I.A. really cared about the backlash she was facing, as she pre-empted with another message: ‘Cancelling is irrelevant!’

There is currently no vaccine available against coronavirus, but there are multiple companies working to create one.

To date, almost 20,000 people have died from the virus around the world.
