Manchester United star Luke Shaw was quick to mock former team-mate Romelu Lukaku following Inter Milan’s exit from the Champions League.

Antonio Conte’s side lost 2-1 to Barcelona at the San Siro on Tuesday to ensure they finished third in their group.

It means Inter drop into the Europa League, potentially setting up a mouthwatering clash with Manchester United in the knockout stages.

United duo Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez both joined Inter last summer and the Belgian in particular has been in good form for the Serie A giants, scoring 12 goals in 20 appearances so far this term.

Lukaku scored Inter’s only goal in their defeat but he couldn’t prevent the side from dropping into the Europa League and Shaw was on hand to troll the former United star.

‘Welcome back’ tweeted Shaw, referring to Inter’s demotion to the Europa League.

United need to avoid defeat against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday to ensure they finish top of their group.

Finishing top means United would avoid the likes of Inter, Ajax and Benfica in the last-32 as teams that have entered the draw from the Champions League.

However, the draw opens up after that round, meaning Lukaku could face a hostile return to the Theatre of Dreams.
