Luka Jovic to be offered to Tottenham, Chelsea after Real Madrid coronavirus row

Real Madrid flop Luka Jovic will be offered to Chelsea and Tottenham following his row with the Spanish club over his handling of self-isolation.

Los Blancos have been in quarantine after a member of the club’s basketball side contracted coronavirus.

The £50m summer signing left self-isolation to fly home to Serbia last week and was forced to apologise.

The European country has strict rules in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19 which were broken by Jovic.

Chelsea and Tottenham have both been interested in the striker previously and will be given the chance to recruit him this summer.

Real Madrid are ready to let Luka Jovic go

Last term he bagged 27 goals in 47 outings for German side Frankfurt but has been unable to recreate that form in Spain with just four goals.

Madrid gave the player permission to fly home but were not impressed that he ignored rules put in place by Serbia for those returning from infected countries.

Jovic bore the brunt of several of the country’s leading lights.

The Serbian forward angered officials in his home country

Prime minister Ana Brnabic said: “We have the negative example of our football stars who earn millions and have ignored the obligation to self-isolate.”

While Serbia’s president, Aleksandar Vucic, went even further by saying: “If he leaves his apartment he’ll be arrested.

“I think he regrets what he’s done, but I’ll make it clear to him that the lives of our people are more important than his millions.”

The 22-year-old has claimed he tested negative for coronavirus in Spain and Serbia, but has apologised for putting people in danger.

He said: “I am very sorry that some people did not do their jobs professionally and did not give me instructions on how to behave regarding isolation.

“In Spain I was allowed to go to the pharmacy and the supermarket, which isn’t the case here.”
