Luigi’s Mansion and King Boo coming to Mario Kart Tour

Mario Kart Tour – it’s a big month for Luigi

Nintendo is using Mario Kart Tour to promote the upcoming Luigi’s Mansion 3, as Waluigi and Waluigi Pinball is also announced for the game.

One of the original ideas for Nintendo making its own mobile games was that it could use them to promote its console titles to a wider audience, which is exactly what’s happening with Mario Kart Tour.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 will be released on Nintendo Switch on 31 October (i.e. Halloween) and so in preparation some spooky additions are coming to Mario Kart Tour.

The Luigi’s Mansion course from Mario Kart DS has been updated and will be added to the game in the next tour and so too will series protagonist King Boo as a new driver.

Mario Kart Tour – you wouldn’t think King Boo needed a kart

Luigi’s presence in the game has been a matter of some controversy, as he – along with a number of other features – was not in the game at launch, despite being present during beta testing.

At least now it won’t be long until he’s available though, along with his evil counterpart Waluigi – who was also announced over the weekend.

It’s not clear when exactly he’ll be added but the Waluigi Pinball course from Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 7 has also been annouced, which is a lot of Luigi-related content in just a few days.

Although it’s been heavily criticised for its gacha elements and poor value for money Gold Pass subscription, Mario Kart Tour has at least kept its promise of a steady stream of new content.

It’s also been one of Nintendo’s most successful mobile games so far, so you can probably expect to see a lot more of these sorts of tie-ins in the future.
