Lucky punter turns fiver into nearly £18,000 on USA racing

A lucky punter has turned a fiver into nearly £18,000 on a night on shock results in the USA.

The Ladbrokes customer placed just £2.50 each-way on three selections at Will Rogers Downs and saw them come in at odds of 33/1, 25/1 and 7/1.

Monday’s card disappointed favourite backers but not the 60-year-old from Yorkshire, who finished the evening winning a huge sum.

He didn’t have long to wait for the bet to come off either, as all three horses raced within an hour window.

Totally Tiger (7/1) was first to strike on the sloppy surface over six furlongs and the punter was able to back the three-year-old at a much bigger price than he returned.

Unbroken Song (25/1) put an unplaced run behind him for Sarah Davidson for leg two, then it was left to Expensive Lesson (33/1) to complete the rout.

Racing in the UK is currently suspended

The race prediction expected the filly to face a stiff task but she defied the doubters to triumph by a length and thee quarters.

For just a £5 stake, the punter celebrated a return of £17,953.60.

Ladbrokes spokeswoman Nicola McGeady said: “With no racing on at home, this punter has turned his attention to the international action and it has certainly paid off.

“He made some incredible predictions and we can only take our hats off to him.”

Racing in the UK is currently suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.

It continues with restrictions in certain countries such as Hong Kong and Australia, the latter providing British Flat duo William Haggas and Tom Marquand with Addeybb’s Group One double in recent weeks.

Ladbrokes make it 8/11 to return here in May, 13/8 for a June comeback and 6/1 for July.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said yesterday the current lockdown restrictions on UK households will last at least another three weeks.
