Lucifer season 5 spoilers: Dan Espinoza star reveals when cast found out about show ending

In typical Lucifer fashion, the fans are petitioning and this time it is to get more seasons after what they see as a premature ending.

It would be hard to bet against them after they have previously petitioned to get the show reinstated by Netflix after it was dropped by Fox after season three.

They also petitioned to get more seasons after the hugely-successful season four and succeeded in getting another season.

However, the task looks harder than ever after a number of stars have come out and said they are just grateful they got two more seasons after Netflix picked it up.

Now, Detective Dan Espinoza star Kevin Alejandro has revealed the short amount of time between when the cast found and then fans found out and how it felt.

He told Metro.co.uk: “The day they announced it to the public, we found out hours before that. At first, you know, it’s kind of bittersweet, because originally we were just waiting to hear if we’d been picked up for another season, and so there’s that.

“They started with the news of ‘we’re picked up!’ and of course there was happiness, and then there was the bittersweetness of ‘but this is the last one.’

“At first I was like ‘ah man’, because none of us were really ready to say goodbye because we’ve become this kind of tight-knit group of people from the cast to the crew that create this show.

“That made it difficult, but the longer I let myself think about it, it’s kind of perfect, you know? We get to finish this season the way the writers and the creators want to finish it, and it’s not pulling the rug out from under our feet.”

He ended with: “They have time to prepare to give the audience the best possible ending they can come up with. It’s a really cool thing.”

“It’s better to quit while we’re ahead and end on a high than to become one of those shows where it’s like ‘that show was cool until blah blah blah’. You know? Have it go too long.”

What’s more, he has previously revealed he wants his character’s romance with Ella Lopez (played by Aimee Garcia) to end and for them to remain as friends.

He revealed: “I don’t know honestly where they’re going to take that. I feel what made that so critical for that season is that you had two lost souls who relied on each other for this amount of time and I think they both guided each other and helped each other come to some sort of realisation about themselves.

“And I think it would be kind of beautiful if they left it at that. That in itself strengthens the relationship as friends.”

Meanwhile, he has also previously revealed he would want Detective Malcolm Graham (Kevin Rankin) to return after showrunners teased a “familiar face” will return.

Kevin played detective Malcolm Graham in the series and was the devoted follower of Lucifer (played by Tom Ellis).

He was knocked into a coma after being shot by Detective Dan and entered hell in his near-death experience before coming back to wreak havoc.

Amenadiel (DB Woodside) charged him with forcing Lucifer to return to hell, but he went about it completely wrong and was ultimately abandoned by Lucifer.

A murder spree in LA made sure he was unsuccessful in getting Lucifer back before he was killed by Lucifer’s lover Detective Chloe Decker to stop him being dragged back to hell.

Lucifer season 4 is available to stream on Netflix now and season five is expected to start production this year.
