Lucifer fans heartbroken as season 5 dealt devastating blow amid covid-19 pandemic

Many fandoms around the world have been dealt a devastating blow as the coronavirus situation puts a hold to production of their favourite series. With Lucifer season five set to wrap its production before the filming of its season finale, it appears the pandemic arrived at just the wrong time for fans of the Netflix series.

Across the world systems are undergoing major changes to attempt to handle the coronavirus outbreak.

Several millions of people are being advised to self-isolate, to either work from home or take time to rest through the pandemic.

With the world taking the precaution of social-distancing, many will be turning to streaming platforms like Netflix to keep them entertained during the quarantine.

Unfortunately, upcoming series and seasons will be facing major delays due to the coronavirus.

Before the news was confirmed, fans took to social media to speculate what could happen to their favourite shows.

One Lucifer fan said: “My God, the virus not only may kill me, but it will prevent me from seeing Deckerstar materialise. What a disaster!”

Devoted viewers were crossing their fingers the long teased relationship between Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) and his LAPD partner Chloe Decker (Lauren German) would finally manifest in the new season.

When they left season four, Lucifer and Chloe finally shared a kiss as Father Kinley (Graham McTavish) prophecy was seemingly confirmed to be true.

Lucifer then reclaimed his iron grip of the underworld from his throne in Hell, leaving season five open for major revelations and devastation to come.

Whilst most of the series may have been filmed, with Netflix offices in LA closed and post-production put on hold, fans will sadly be waiting for the premiere potentially for several months or more.

Showrunner for the series Ildy Modrovich said on Twitter: “I directed 515 actually – so we finished that one. (Haven’t SEEN it yet though) But YES to all who asked… we will return at some point (when it’s safe!) to finish 516!!”

Episode 16 will serve as the season finale, so Lucifer’s crew was a hair’s breadth away from completing the season.

Fans can take solace in the fact that the show hasn’t come to a complete end, and the team will definitely return to complete the season.

Covid-19 has affected several productions but feels particularly cruel for fans of Lucifer.

After being cancelled by Fox, the series was saved from cancellation by Netflix.

The fourth season was released by the streaming platform, but just as talks of a sixth additional instalment seemed about to finalise the pandemic has taken it away from the fans’ grasp.

Lucifer season 4 is currently available to stream on Netflix.
