Winter Love Island crowned its first-ever winners in Paige Turley and Finely Tapp last night against all the odds, but it was clear which moment bagged them the £50,000 and snatched it from nearest rivals, Siannise Fudge and Luke Trotman.

The result has caused a huge upset with bookmakers, but if only they’d been told Finn was about to sob as he declared his love to Paige then they would have known better.

Finn’s tears were genuine, no one’s denying that, but they were also the couple’s golden ticket to go all the way. And Siannise knew it, according to Metro.co.uk’s body language expert Judi James.

In the latest episode of Love or Lie Island, Judi tells us: ‘Siannise’s face says it all because she saw the prize money going out of her hand at that point.’

‘[Tears] part of our survival process in terms of body language so they make us look helpless and also they have a contagious effect,’ she explained.

‘The whole thing about tears will be in terms of survival is when you see someone crying like that you can’t help having empathy with them and mirroring their state.

‘In animal behaviour the actual animal that’s about attack would back down. And I think the moment he was going to blub like that you knew he was going to win. Even though I’m thinking, “oh give him an Oscar” I was still trying not to tear up.

‘That’s why she started crying: it’s very much the wedding effect. This replicated wedding, it replicates the wedding speech when you get all gooey about the other half and it’s all projective tears.

‘The fact he’s this big guy and he tried to hide his tears. There were women all over the land whose hearts were breaking at that point – it was excellent, so well-timed.

‘And Siannise’s face was obviously loving them to bits but think, “ok..”’

After Paige and Finley were crowned champions of Winter Love Island 2020, Siannise and Luke T insisted they’d already won because they found each other.

To us, their adoring public, they will always be the true winners of Winter Love Island 2020.

Love Island returns to ITV2 later this year.
