Love Island’s Theo Campbell has told fans not to feel sorry for him after his horrific eye incident, and says he’s hoping to regain his sight once his eye has healed.

Despite doctors warning him that his sight will never return to normal – if it returns at all – Theo’s staying positive that he could make a full recovery.

He told his followers: ‘Yeah I play a lot but you gotta laugh otherwise you cry. These eye doctors they don’t like to give away an inch.

They said the doctor in Ibiza did a very good job with the stitches. The eye is together which is the main part and I’ve still got it obviously.

‘The outside of the eye is damaged, I can open it and I see light, light can come in so I’m not completely blind, so that is a good step.’

Despite his doctor at London’s Moorfields Eye Hospital telling him there was ‘no chance’ of him regaining his sight like it was before, Theo was determined to prove them wrong.

He explained: ‘I was like, “There’s a little bit of a chance?”, and he was like “No never like how you used to you’re just going to have to see but it’s very unlikely.”

‘I just feel like I know my body and you don’t know, I feel like it might be alright? He was like “It might be but I don’t think it will be”.

‘But doctors do that thing where they give you no hope but then when it does happen you feel all that much better for it.’

He thanked fans for their support after the freak accident but said he doesn’t want their pity: ‘Thanks again for all the messages, don’t feel sorry for me, s**t happens doesn’t it.

‘To me I ain’t dead, could be worse. Not that much worse, but it could be. Always have hope. Or be a bit deluded like me.’

Theo had to have emergency surgery on his eye after a cork flew out of a champagne bottle and hit him directly in the eye at a champagne spray party in Ibiza, splitting his eyeball in half.

He revealed that he had only taken his sunglasses off for a second to wipe champagne out of his eye, and as he looked down a girl accidentally popped her bottle right under his face.

The doctors managed to save the eye but the likelihood of him regaining vision in the eye is small, though he says he can see light through the affected eye.
