She propelled to fame on the 2018 series of Love Island as a 29-year-old air hostess. 

And Laura Anderson, who was one of the oldest singletons on the show, has spoken out about how since leaving the villa she has been trolled relentlessly about her age. 

In an interview with The Sun, the television personality, 31, has revealed the fickle side of fame and detailed how she’s lost out on jobs to her peers due to being ‘past it’.

Speaking about the hate she gets regarding her age, Laura said: ‘I get called a “wrinkly, washed-up has-been” or they’ll say, “You don’t look a day over 50”, tell me I’m “past it” or ask, “Why are you in a club? Go home, Grandma”.

‘If I’m pictured with a guy, they’ll say I look like I could be his mum. There is this obsession with age and so much judgment over a woman’s appearance, which men simply don’t get.’

Laura continued: ‘I just hadn’t experienced ageism before. But on the island it became very apparent that I was the older girl.’

During her stint on the ITV2 show, the Scottish beauty said she was horrified when her father had to get her birth certificate to prove she wasn’t lying about her age.  

And following her exit, Laura said she was constantly compared to her female co-stars who ‘would definitely get jobs over me because they were younger’. 

Laura said she was dropped from a high fashion brand campaign, which many Love Islanders go on to work with, because her ‘age didn’t fit the demographic’ and because she ‘wouldn’t get any younger’ the retailer couldn’t commit to working with her.

The reality star admitted the feedback, delivered by her agent, made her feel ‘ashamed of my appearance and years on this planet’. 

But while Laura has gone on to become establish as career as a successful influencer, she says she has also been targeted by trolls because she hasn’t settled down.

She told the publication that trolls tell her she ‘must be desperate’ because her biological clock is ticking.

However, the star said she was adamant she didn’t was to rush into marriage and start a family, and ‘trusts the process’ that she will find Mr Right eventually.

During the interview, Laura also spoke out about her split from her personal fitness boyfriend Tom Brazier, 37, last year. 

The couple were an item for 15 months but Laura said they broke up because Tom was ready to settle down. 

Describing the dumping as one of ‘the most awful things I’ve done’, Laura said she needed to take ‘control of my life’ and ‘knew it wasn’t right’ between them.

The television personality has remained happily single since the break-up.
