Love Island's Chris Hughes slams major part of show and says it 'needs to go'

Love Island star Chris Hughes claims a major part of the grand finale “needs to go” before the series returns in the summer.

On Sunday, Lewis Capaldi’s ex Paige and Finley were crowned the winners of the first Love Island Winter Edition and were handed an envelope, with one containing £50,000 and the other of no cash value.

Paige was fortunate to be handed the envelope containing the cash, meaning it was her decision to split the prize with her boyfriend or steal the full amount.

The blonde bombshell chose to split the cash with her boyfriend, which instantly saw fans take to social media to slam the “pointless” segment of the show.

Throughout the history of Love Island, no winner has stolen the prize for themselves.

Jesy Nelson’s boyfriend took to his Twitter and addressing his 513,000 followers, Chris said: “What is the point in the share or steal love island prize money bit? Needs to go.

“Turns a love show into a game show, for no reason. Lol.”

Paige opted to split the 50K prize

One of his followers replied: “No one ever steals, would be elite tier television”.

While a second said: “I was just thinking that Chris… I’m sure if someone stole the cash, they’d make it back in the first week after leaving the villa anyway.”

Nobody in the history of Love Island has stolen the prize

A third said: “Why do they still bother doing this spit or steal thing like no one’s gonna run off with the 50k unfortunately.”

Winners Paige and Finn had been up against the bookie’s favourites Siannise and Luke T but were eventually crowned the winners after overtaking them.
