Love Island's Amber win 'shames ex Michael by inspiring women against love rats'


Love Island winner Amber Gill has said she hopes her triumph inspires women ‘who have love rat exes’.

The 21-year-old Geordie girl threw shade at her ex Michael Griffiths as she spoke out after her shock win alongside Greg O’Shea, after they beat long time favourites Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury into second place.

Amber is hoping that her ‘show of strength’ when Michael tried to win her back, despite cruelly dumping her for Joanna Chimonides after the Casa Amor villa twist.

There was a surge of popularity for Amber after she chose Greg over Michael in a dramatic recoupling that saw the Scouse firefighter dumped from the villa.

Now Amber is hoping this move will inspire other women.

Speaking after bagging £50,000 for winning the ITV2 show with Greg, Amber said: “I definitely want girls to be strong and do what they want to do and don’t go back to people that hurt you.

“You don’t have to, even if it seems easier, so I’m glad I’ve inspired people, it makes me really happy.”

Rugby playing Irishman, Greg, 24, said: “I’m a big believer you only date somebody if you can see potential with them, otherwise you’re wasting your time.

“It’s only been a couple of weeks but it’s been great so far.”

Greg has had a great start to his relationship with Amber and one of his biggest fans is her mum, Vanessa Waugh.

The 47-year-old mother believes that Greg was ‘genuine’ and took to him straight away when she met him in the villa along with Amber’s 60-year-old dad Leon.

Recruitment worked Vanessa, from Gateshead, said: “I think Greg’s absolutely lovely. When I went into the villa he was the second person to hug me.

“His accent is to die for. He’s welcome in our house any time.”

It might not have happened though, if Amber had followed her instinct to quit after being ‘humiliated’ by Michael’s dumping.

She said: “There definitely was a few points where I really wanted to go.

“In the real world you don’t have to watch your ex crack on with a new person. It was hard just to watch and you feel quite lonely.

“I’m glad I stuck it out. It made me stronger and I‘ve come out better off.”
