Love Island viewers praise Rebecca for her visible ‘contraception patch’ – we have no choice but to stan

There are plenty of reasons to stan Love Island bombshell Rebecca Gormley – from her jawdropping entrance, to her confidence, to her, in the words of Shaughna Phillips, hair of a goddess.

And it seems we can add ‘clued up about sexual health and safety’ to that list.

Viewers clocked that the 21-year-old was wearing what seemed to be a contraceptive patch on her thigh on her dates with Callum Jones and Connor Durman, and we are loving the contraception representation.

In Tuesday night’s episode of Love Island, the beauty queen headed to the Hideaway dressed in her Greek goddess costume, and sat on the bed as she chatted to her two potential love interests.

And eagle eyed viewers spied that at the top of her thigh, Rebecca was wearing a square patch.

Some speculated that the Geordie model was wearing a nicotine patch, due to the stricter smoking rules in the Love Island villa of recent series.

However, many others (mainly women) suggested that Rebecca was wearing the contraceptive patch – and while some mocked her for openly showing off the patch, others cheered her on.

One viewer wrote: ‘So happy to see Rebecca on love island wearing a contraceptive patch, so many people don’t know they are a thing and it makes me feel a lot less self conscious about mine now.’

The contraceptive patch – called Evra in the UK – is a small, sticky patch that prevents pregnancy by releasing hormones into your body.

It works in the same way as the combined pill and is more than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy when used correctly.

While others use the pill as contraception, the patch has the benefits of still being effective when you have been sick, and that you don’t have to think about it every day.

However, it does not protect against STIs so you may need to use condoms as well when having sex.

Now, we can’t say for sure if Rebecca is in fact wearing the contraceptive patch, but if she is, more power to her – everyone has got to take care of their sexual health, and it’s great to see openness around the different kinds of contraception.

Rebecca is created quite a stir in the villa already, as Callum lied to Shaughna about how well his date had gone with the former Miss Newcastle.

And in a game of dares, Rebecca was forced to kiss the two islanders she thought were the most attractive – choosing Connagh Howard and Callum.

Becky with the good hair has arrived.

Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2.
