Love Island’s summer series could be pulled in the wake of the death of former host Caroline Flack.

The TV presenter, 40, died at her home in London on Saturday.

Following the tragic news, two episodes – Unseen Bits on Saturday and the regular episode the day after – were pulled from TV schedules.

Six hours of ‘crisis talks’ were reportedly held behind-the-scenes, and at one point it was suggested the show should be ‘rested’ when the current series ends.

‘The tragic news about Caroline saw a last-minute meeting called,’ a source told The Sun.

‘Love Island is commercially huge but those with vested interests are concerned about its effect. There was talk of resting it for a series and even taking it out of production for the foreseeable future.’

A spokesperson from ITV said: ‘Many people at ITV knew Caroline well and held her in great affection. All of us are absolutely devastated at this tragic news.

‘After careful consultation between Caroline’s representatives and the Love Island production team and given how close we still are to the news of Caroline’s tragic death we have decided not to broadcast tonight’s Love Island out of respect for Caroline’s family.’

The ITV2 programme will return tonight, and will include a special tribute to the TV star.

Caroline had stepped down from hosting the winter series in the wake of an assault charge against her. She had fronted the series since 2015.

Laura Whitmore was brought in as host with Caroline’s blessing.

Whitmore, along with other celebrities such as Olly Murs, Cheryl, Paddy McGuinness and Holly Willoughby, have also paid tribute on social media.
