Love Island stars to wear second hand clothes as eBay becomes fashion partner

Love Island contestants will wear second hand clothes for the first time on the show this year, as producers have announced a new partnership with eBay UK.

As series eight prepares to launch this summer, the hit reality TV show has said it’s on a mission to change the way people shop for clothes by joining forces with eBay UK.

It will be the first pre-loved fashion partner to couple up with one of the most popular shows on TV.

The Love Island wardrobe is set to get a total refresh this summer, as the islanders will model pre-loved clothes this season, and contestants will be immersing themselves into a strict ‘eat, sleep, rewear, repeat’ mentality.

This means fans of the show will get to see the islanders show off their own creative style, while also doing their bit to extend the life cycle of clothes.






eBay will become the show’s first ever pre-loved fashion partner

Mike Spencer, Executive Producer of Love Island, said: We are thrilled to be pairing up with eBay this year as our pre-loved fashion partner. As a show we strive to be a more eco-friendly production with more focus on ways in which we can visibly show this on screen.

“This partnership will see our Islanders get to dive into the shared wardrobes and help themselves to some incredible pre-loved clothes sourced from eBay.

“We aim to inspire our demographic and show that there are incredible finds to be had and how sharing is, in some small way, caring.”

The collaboration comes after a study carried out by eBay revealed that UK shoppers are becoming more and more conscious of fast fashion.






Love Island wants to change the way we think about fashion

A fifth (20%) of Brits admit that they buy more second-hand fashion compared to two years ago and also revealed that, on average, 16% of their wardrobes are made up of pre-loved clothes.

Adults between the ages of 18 and 34 have the highest average percentage of second-hand clothes in their wardrobe (22%), which came in at nearly double that of the over 55s (12%).

Money-saving (54%) and protecting our planet (37%) are the biggest factors as to why people shop second-hand, with bagging some designer bargains (25%) and wanting something original (18%) also contributing to the rise in fast fashion.

Following the last series, many fans tried to replicate some their favourite island looks after the show aired.

Last year’s winner, Millie, proved to be one of the most-followed fashionista’s as her one shoulder marble dress influenced 127% more searches for “marble dress”.

As well as this her linen hot pink co-ord caused 114% more online searches for “hot pink co-ord.”






The season is all about pre-loved fashion

Within the last 12 months searches for “pre-loved clothes” have also rocketed, with Gen Z bucking the trend for recycled fashion.

It was revealed that around 80% of the age group admitted that they have recently bought second-hand goods.

Jemma Tadd, Head of Fashion at eBay UK, said: “We’re so excited to partner with Love Island this year and put pre-loved fashion, centrestage.

“The impact of Love Island and its stars across the UK is undeniable and together we want to inspire the nation to choose pre-loved first when shopping – even if this means buying or selling one or two pre-loved items to start with, it’s a step in the right direction.

“We can’t wait to change the conversation and dress the Islanders in pre-loved outfits for the very first time.”

It’s also been confirmed that Amy Bannerman has been recruited to style this year’s islanders. Amy has styled celebrities such as Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, Sophie Turner, Jonathan Van Ness and Lena Dunham in the past.
