‘She took me out to Groucho’s and for young lad off a building site to get to go to Groucho’s was… she made feel welcome. On and off, when the cameras weren’t rolling, she was a right laugh.’

‘When the cameras were off, she was like one of the Islanders, she would have a laugh with us.’

When asked if he had spotted any signs of Caroline’s mental health battle, Nathan insisted ‘I’d never seen any signs, she was just a bubbly, fantastic diamond to be around, a great person’.

On his memories of Caroline from his time on Love Island, the reality star admitted she always put him and his co-stars at ease, explaining: ‘When we were on set and saw her coming through the door, it was like bittersweet, one of use is going home but at least we could leave with Caroline! She wore a lovely smile, she was a lovely person.’

Curtis echoed Nathan’s compliments later on Lorraine, telling Christine Lampard and ITV showbiz correspondent Richard Arnold: ‘She was a big part of the show. I remember first time I met her, it was during a recoupling, we didn’t get time to talk, but she was so professional’.

‘But we met after and had time to talk, she was so lovely, she had a great personality’.

‘She was very inclusive,’ Richard agreed. ‘She didn’t put the ladder up and push anyone else away when the show was over.’

Curtis also defended Love Island, which has attracted criticism for its care process for stars.

Caroline’s death marks the third suicide of a Love Island star, following the deaths of 2017 contestant Mike Thalassitis in March 2019 and Sophie Gradon, who appeared on the 2016 series and died in June 2018.

On coming out into an ‘alien world’ of celebrity: Curtis: It really is! [an alien world] you go in there as normal people and come out of it 100%. You don’t come out 50%, you come out 100% and are thrown straight into it! But I can’t say bad word about Love Island, it helped me loads’.

Caroline died on Saturday at her new flat in Stoke Newington, Londonhours after she was told she would face trial over the alleged assault of boyfriend Lewis Burton last year – while the producer friend who was staying with her went to the shops.

ITV cancelled scheduled Love Island episodes over the weekend but said the show would return tonight with a tribute to Caroline, who presented five series before stepping back following her arrest.
