Love Island gossip: Michael Griffiths faces tense grilling in joint Aftersun reunion with Joanna Chimonides

Michael Griffiths was forced to face the music over his actions on Love Island in an awkward Aftersun interview with his ex Joanna Chimonides.

On Sunday night, Michael appeared on the spin-off show for an interview with host Caroline Flack about his time on the ITV2 dating show.

The chat touched on his roller-coaster relationship with Amber Gill and decision to dump her for Joanna Chimonides.

He was also cornered into talking about his controversial attempts to try and recouple with Amber after Joanna was dumped from the island.

Michael explained that he decided not to follow Joanna out of the villa was because he didn’t want to quit at something for the first time in his life.

“I’ve always said I’ve never quit anything in my life and I wasn’t about to start then,” he said. “It is about finding love, but I’d spoken to people previously, regardless of the situation there was two weeks left. I felt it was a test.”

The former fireman added: “I wasn’t gong to quit the whole process, and I was going to enjoy my time with my friends.”

Speaking about his decision to demonise Amber to Joanna, he said: “I understand why people would think…it’s a bit of a d*** move.

“I should have spoken to Amber away from everybody I shouldn’t have done that in that way. That being said those issues were there. I should have gone about it in a different way.”

When talking about his attempts to recouple with Amber after she was taken on a date by new boy Greg O’Shea, things got awkward between Michael and Joanna, who had now joined him on the Aftersun sofa.

Michael squirmed as he explained: “Those feelings never actually go away. At that point me and Amber had just made up and I’d apologised and at that point I don’t know if that’s a feeling of friendship or something more.

“People at certain points in life will be attracted to two different people. It’s just that mine is on TV. You can have feelings for more than one person.”

Joanna replied: “The thing is I asked you several times…”

Later on the interview, Michael admitted that he wanted to crack on with Joanna again.

“I want to speak to Joanna to be honest,” he said.

“I know she’s not thinking about [rekindling] but the whole thing has been on my mind the whole time.”

Love Island continues tonight at 9 pm on ITV2.
