Love Island Final: Amber's ex Michael is STUNNED as former flame wins the show

Michael Griffiths, 27, was left with egg on his face following Monday’s Love Island final, as his former flame Amber Gill, 21, was crowned winner along with her new partner Greg O’Shea, 24.

Posting his reaction to the result on Instagram Stories, the former fireman insisted he ‘did not expect’ Amber to be crowned champion, before cheekily claiming the victory was for ‘ratings.’

Fans were quick to jump on Amber’s victory with a barrage of savage memes as they joked Michael ‘blew his share of the £50,000’ when he savagely dumped Amber earlier in the series.

Michael, who came under fire from fans for his manipulative ‘gaslighting’ behaviour inside the villa, was speechless when he saw Amber was the winner, saying to the camera: ‘Oh s***, oh s*** I did not expect that.’

Continuing his frenzy, he gasped in shock and screamed: ‘Wow.’

The reality TV star appeared to throw shade former flame’s victory, blurting out the word ‘ratings’ before the clip ended.

Michael spent the evening viewing the episode at Boxpark Wembley where a large screen was erected to show the final.

The final show saw host Caroline Flack announce Amber and Greg as the winners, she asked the beautician and the rugby hunk to choose an envelope each – one containing the £50k prize fund, the other containing nothing.

Greg selected the winning envelope, and after a moment of brief tension announced he’d be splitting it with Amber.

Prior to this, Curtis Pritchard and Maura Higgins were axed first from the final, coming in fourth place.

They were followed swiftly by Ovie Soko and India Reynolds who placed third.

In their chat with Caroline – which took place before they were announced as winners – Greg and Amber gushed over one another, admitting they felt shocked to have gotten so far in the process.

Amber said: ‘I don’t know how we’ve done it. It’s wild. It’s been a rollercoaster of emotion. Absolutely mad. I had that period of time that was just awful and I thought it was over for [me] then. Then [Greg] came in.’

Of her previous dramas with ex-Islander Michael, who ditched Amber for Joanna, Amber went on: ‘I was definitely prepared to stay with Michael. We had a great friendship. But I knew when I looked him up and down that he was going to ruin my life.

‘It was horrible [when Michael paired up with Joanna]. I had a sneaky feeling but I was hoping that he wouldn’t do it. [Greg] is just lovely. He’s got nice energy. I like being around him all the time.’

Greg said of Amber: ‘I knew she was the one because she was funny and because of her confidence. My parents raised me to have good morals and good principals. It’s nice to treat women with respect.’

Amber said she would never have given Michael another chance after Greg’s arrival. She shared: ‘I’m not the type of person to go back to someone. I had an instant click [with Greg] and I wanted a fresh start. I had to work to build it with Michael. I didn’t want to go back there! I literally lost all hope [until Greg came in].’

Following being dumped from the villa, Michael exclusively told MailOnline, that he had left the island at the ‘perfect’ time because he was able to make amends for ‘hurting’ Amber.

He said: ‘Me and Amber spoke and I knew I was directing my frustration at her and when it was happening I was always thinking to myself, “why am I doing this?” because I’m literally just hurting a friend.’

The Liverpool born star claimed his romance with the beauty therapist stirred up old hurt from past relationships.

However, Michael enthused he was glad they were able to ‘clear’ the air between them and part ways as friends.

He added: ‘Amber was reminding me of past relationships and stuff like that and I did speak to her about it and it was something that I didn’t really want to put myself through again.

‘Amber knew I was directing my frustration at her… Speaking about it was pretty nice to be honest and we’ve left things on a really high note and we are actually friends.’

Michael managed to patch things up with his ex Amber in the five extra days he stayed in the Mallorcan villa after his partner Joanna was dumped from the island.

Although the tattooed hunk admitted he was ‘tempted’ to leave with Joanna, he claimed he was glad he didn’t because he isn’t a ‘quitter’.

On the mend: Just before his exit Michael pulled Amber aside for a chat, where he insisted he wants her 'to be happy' and does think her relationship with Greg could work
