Love Island fans outraged that Sherif was axed for ‘joke’ while Maura stays after ‘sexually harassing’ Tommy

LOVE Island fans were left outraged that Sharif Lanre was booted out of the villa for making a crude jibe – insisting Maura Higgins has done far worse.

The Sun exclusively revealed that the chef was axed after he accidentally kicked Molly-Mae Hague in the crotch during a play fight and called it a “c*** punt”.

Many viewers have drawn comparisons between what Sharif did and Maura jumping onto Tommy Fury and trying to kiss him in last night’s show.

The incident caused many to brand the 28-year-old grid girl a “predator” and said she should have been axed herself.

One wrote: “So Sherif got kicked out the villa for making a silly vagina joke after accidentally kicking Molly in the c***, yet Maura tried to force herself on Tommy and she’s staying put???”

Another said: “So maura hasn’t been kicked off for being a sexual predator but sherif was kicked off for play fighting, make it make sense!”

A third said: “So.. Sherif has been kicked out for a slip up of words! But Maura can stay after literally harassing Tommy.”

One other insisted: “After Sherif being kicked out for accidentally kicking Molly in the f***y, Maura should definitely be kicked out for forcing herself onto Tommy.. double standards??.”

A fifth wrote: “So Sherif was kicked out of the villa for play fighting with Molly-Mae and accidentally kicking her and joked about it after using the word c*** but yet Maura is literally forcing herself on Tommy and using foul language and nothing is being done.”

Maura jumped on top of Tommy on the sofa and tried to kiss him in what many felt amounted to sexual harassment.

She repeatedly tried to get him to kiss her back – but in the end he turned his head telling her: “On the cheek, on the cheek.”

Speaking to The Sun yesterday, Sharif suggested he had been the victim of “unconscious racism”.

He explained: “I was the only black man in the villa and I was kicked out after ten days. In my opinion, what happened was unconscious racism.

“There was, I felt, sexism. I feel I wouldn’t have been given that red card if I was a white woman.”

Explaining what happened, he said: “I did kick Molly-Mae in the groin area but it was an accident and she 100 per cent was not injured afterwards.

“She flinched and bent over to protect herself. Then she stood up and seemed fine and we started laughing about it.

“I turned to Tommy Fury and said, ‘That was a c*** punt.’

“I’ve never used the word before and don’t know where it came from. I think I’ve heard other people saying it and it just popped out.

“I know I have been stupid and let myself down but I was not being malicious.

“This has been blown out of all proportion and I have been made to look like a terrible person when I am not.”

Sherif was forced to leave the Love Island villa on Monday but no reason was given by the ITV2 show’s chiefs.

The broadcaster issued a statement on behalf of Sherif saying: “In a case of poor judgment, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa.

“I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way.”
