Love Island fan who accused Molly-Mae of being a gold-digger defends star and slams bosses for using two-week old tweet

LOVE Island fan who branded Molly-Mae Hague a gold digger on Twitter has since defended the tweet.

In last night’s episode Islanders read out the public’s tweets about them, but they had to fill in the blanks.

One particular tweet hit a nerve with the Instagram influencer, as one tweet claimed she was not in the villa to find love with Tommy Fury, but to take home the £50,000 jackpot.

The tweet from two weeks ago read: “Nah Tommy deserves more than Molly-Mae, she doesn’t like him, she likes 50k.”

But the social media user has defended his comment and insists if the negative comment causes the couple to split, he is not to blame.

A separate post, which was shared alongside the moment his tweet was read out in Online Buzz trial, read: “If what I tweeted caused tommy and molly to break up… its really Above Me.”

The Twitter user – who goes under the handle @namjoonsais – continued to back track after making the dig on June 12.

When asked how it felt for the tweet to be the “centre” of Wednesday’s ITV2 episode, he replied praising Molly, 20, as a “babe”, but admitting the post was old.

He replied: “HORRIBLE IT WAS FROM 2 WWEEKS AGO MOLLY MAE’S A BABE NOW #LoveIsland.”

While a separate tweet read: “IT WAS FROM JUNE 12TH MOLLY MAE’S A DIFFERENT PERSON NOW.”

The account – who has 1,648 followers on Twitter – has even apologised to Molly for upsetting her.

Another post read: “INFERIOR MOLLY MAE IM SORRY BLESS U #LoveIsland.”

The post hit a nerve with the 20-year-old. She replied: “Wow wow. I came in for one thing, not money, and I found it.”

Speaking in the beach hut, she vented: “I am actually fuming. I’m not going to hide. Fuming. I’m annoyed because, I feel like to bring money into it… what am I meant to say? I’m speechless.”

Fans were quick to say they thought the show’s bosses purposefully selected the critical comments about Molly-Mae to single her out as three negative tweets were read out about her.

One viewer tweeted: “I mean idk why Molly Mae was singled out bc really they’re all in there for the money it’s f**king love island isn’t it”, another added: “Nah why did they do mollymae like that in the tweet challenge man she’s sweet.”

A third wrote: “So sad that #LoveIsland have targeted Molly Mae for this challenge when I hardly ever see tweets about her being fake and she has one of the biggest followings! AND they probably used the ONLY positive tweet about Arabella.”
