Louise Redknapp has revealed the devastating impact her split from ex-husband Jamie Redknapp caused, including one incident where she considered suicide.
The former Eternal singer tied the knot with Jamie in 1998 and became a rare enduring couple in showbiz before announcing their split in 2017.
Since then, the pair have been on amicable terms co-parenting their sons Charley, 16, and Beau, 12, but it was a journey to get there as Louise initially struggled with the end of their 19-year marriage.
Speaking to Mail On Sunday’s You Magazine about her new book You’ve Got This: And Other Things I Wish I Had Known, Louise recalled: ‘I sank to my knees, crouched down by the radiator and sobbed and sobbed. That was the first time I ever wondered whether I would be better off not being here.
‘I would be standing in Central London, watching the buses whiz past and I would wonder whether it would be easier for a bus to take me out. All it would take was for me to step out at the wrong moment and it would all be over.’
When asked if she was genuinely contemplating suicide, Louise replied: ‘I think so, for a split second.’
However, the former Strictly Come Dancing star thought of her boys and what it would mean for them.
‘I was like, “I would really like this to all go away. But I’ve got two little men who need me more than anything”,’ she said, adding that that’s where her ‘selfishness stops’.
Louise, 46, also addressed whether she could have done more to save the marriage and admitted that she should have taken more time to figure out why she ‘couldn’t do it anymore’.
The pop star still spends some major holidays with Jamie, 47, and the pair reunited to spend Christmas Day with Charley and Beau.
Louise is currently believed to be single while Jamie has since moved on with Swedish model Frida Andersson-Lourie.
