Louise Redknapp refuses to ‘slander’ ex-husband Jamie Redknapp as she still has respect for him.

Considering the 45-year-old has always been super private about her life with Jamie, it’s no surprise the two don’t have anything bad to say about each other.

With her first studio album in 20 years coming out next year, the star admitted a few songs are about her heartbreak but she doesn’t want any negativity from it.

Speaking to MailOnline, the singer said: ‘If I am asked about that stuff then I’m certainly not going to slander or be unkind.

‘There’s nothing unkind to say. I have a huge respect for Jamie and his family.’

‘You don’t spend 20 years with someone and not care about them still. Yes, there are good days and bad days. And the best songs are written when you’re feeling heartbroken.’

Louise shares Charles, 15, and Beau, 10, with her footballer former spouse and hopes people understand the album is ‘uplifting’.

‘When [the album] does come out I obviously want to talk about it,’ the star – who’s currently starring in the musical 9 to 5 – continued. ‘Talk about the songs and about why I wrote them. And it’s already been well-documented that it’s personal.

‘I’m realistic, and I know the music inside and out. And when people hear the music that will actually stop [people speculating what it’s about]. I write from the heart and it’s an uplifting and positive album.

‘The feelings I have put into the lyrics – they’re feelings that we have all felt during a time of our lives. They’re emotions. The heart is the heart. Sometimes in life it all goes perfectly, sometime’s things just go pear shaped.’

Meanwhile, Richard Madeley recently made everything awkward by asking the singer why her marriage with Jamie ended.

Appearing on This Morning with hosts Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan to promote her new album on Friday 25 October, Richard soon switched the subject to her marriage with Partridge-like flair.

Interjecting, Richard said: ‘Can I ask what went wrong or is that delving too deep?’

Louise, in slightly shocked laughs, replied: ‘I wish I knew. It was really sad times. It was really sad and devastating for the whole family and when there is children involved, it’s something that takes a long time to get over.’
