Louise Minchin: ‘I’ve shrunk’ BBC Breakfast host shocks viewers with backstage photo

Louise Minchin, 50, and Dan Walker, 42, are usually seen seated on the famous red BBC Breakfast sofa, so, when they stood up for a funny backstage snap, the effect certainly entertained fans.

Louise, Dan, Ben Thompson and sport reporter John Watson could be seen standing in a line on the set, the former laughing as the other three towered over her.

Uploading the photo in view of his 580,000 Twitter followers, Dan said: “Louise is 5ft 8 by the way.”

He also added the hashtags: “#BreakfastUnits #LandOfTheGiants.”

Sharing the post with her own 166,000 followers, Louise joked: “Good morning, I have shrunk!”

BBC Breakfast dans couldn’t believe their eyes at the dramatic height difference between the presenter and her co-stars, taking to the comments to share their responses.

“You just look further away!” one exclaimed, while a second quipped: “A rose in between the tree tops.”

“You know what they say about small packages,” another repeated. “It does look like you’re the lead singer and @mrdanwalker and the others are your backing singers.”

A fourth Twitter also punned: “Louise Munchkin.”

Dan is thought to be eight inches taller than his co-host, standing at 6’ 4”.

The pair have worked together on BBC Breakfast since Dan replaced her former presenting partner Bill Turnbull, 63, in 2016.

Louise, meanwhile, was made one of the show’s main presenters back in 2011.

Elsewhere, Louise Minchin spoke out on her “recovery” after a gruelling physical challenge earlier this week.

The BBC favourite, who is a regular triathlete, took part in a tough swimrun, which consisted of nine swims and nine runs.

Taking to Twitter afterwards, she shared a picture of herself with her trainer as they tucked into a post-race pizza.

“It’s going to take me a while to recover from yesterday’s epic swim/run but the pizza definitely helped,” she wrote.

She went on tot thank her pal and trainer for helping her with “coping with the tears, keeping [her] safe and cajoling [her] around”.

On Instagram, she also told her 34,000 followers she was wearing trainers for the show the next day due to her “sore toes”, adding: “Ouch ouchy ouch.”

Louise later tweeted saying she could “barely walk” after the challenge.

BBC Breakfast  airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
