Louise Minchin: ‘Did I give that impression?’ BBC Breakfast host in Jeremy Corbyn mix-up

Louise Minchin, 50, was joined by her co-presenter Charlie Stayt, 57, on BBC Breakfast as the pair discussed sports journalist Mike Bushell, 53, joining the Strictly Come Dancing 2019 roster. But the BBC favourite appeared to have a slight mix-up with the latest contestants as she seemingly suggested Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, 70, will be taking to the dance floor. As Louise gave viewers an insight as to what they can expect from the morning show, her colleague looked slightly confused by her introduction. She said: “Also coming up on the show shortly, we are going to be talking about Strictly Come Dancing because you may have noticed our very own Mike Bushell is going to be taking part.

“We also know that Jeremy Corbyn is having this meeting with opposition leaders this morning as well. I’ll be speaking to the Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson about what she’s expecting from that meeting coming up shortly.”

A stunned Charlie turned to Louise as he attempted to assure viewers that the politician will not be taking part in the popular dance competition.

He said: “No confusion there. Jeremy Corbyn is not involved in Strictly Come Dancing.”

Louise certainly looked bemused by her co-host’s remark as she burst out laughing.

She asked: “Did I give that impression?”

Charlie then implied there was no confusion on his part but wanted to ensure that viewers were “clear” with what she was saying.

He mused: “No, just to be clear.”

But Louise did not let it go, as she cheekily suggested Jeremy could possibly be taking part in the show.

She implied: “As far as we know.”

The mix-up comes after it was announced earlier this month, Louise’s co-star Mike would be one of the 13 contestants taking part in the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The presenter recently took to her Twitter account to gush over her colleague after he made his debut at the Strictly red carpet launch on Monday.

She retweeted a message he initially posted on the micro-blogging site, which said: “What an incredible night. Thanks @bbcstrictly no pressure having to walk/dance out first with @SaffronBarker who’s ace and thanks for showing me some moves. This journey is going to be such fun. I’m up early in the back garden on @BBCBreakfast with just a gnome to dance with.”

Louise replied: “Can’t wait to watch you Mike!” in view of her 163,000 followers.

Elsewhere, the BBC favourite recently announced some exciting news of her own as she embarks on a new challenge.

Louise revealed she is in the process of her writing her second book after completing the Norseman Triathlon, which sees athletes put thorough their paces with extreme sports.

Her first book, Dare to Tri: My Journey from the BBC Breakfast Sofa to GB Team Triathlete, was shortlisted for The Telegraph Sports Health and Fitness Book of the Year Awards 2019.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6.30am.
