Louise Minchin: BBC Breakfast presenter scolds co-host Dan Walker over clothing gaffe

Louise Minchin, 51, blasted co-host Dan Walker, 42, in one of her traditional morning tweets for not matching her attire during Tuesday’s BBC Breakfast show.

She tweeted a selfie of the two of them on the BBC sofa with Dan leaning in and looking less than impressed.

“Good morning,” she tweeted. “I really think @mrdanwalker could have made more effort to match the pink!”

Louise wore a pink blouse for the BBC show and was less than impressed when Dan didn’t match her colour choice.

Fans flocked to voice their opinions on whether Dan should “get with the fashion” and join Louise in pink.

“He could have gone at least pink tie or handkerchief in his top pocket. Come on @mrdanwalker get with the fashion lol,” one user commented.

“Maybe Dan got dressed in the dark and didn’t realise his mistake,” another quipped.

Someone else joked: “Maybe some lipstick?”

During the show, the presenters interviewed war veteran Victor Gregg who was celebrating his 100th birthday.

The former paratrooper appeared on the sofa next to Dan and Louise sporting his medals and looking marvellous for his age.

In aid of his milestone birthday he told of times when he was younger and living in London before he joined the Army on his 18th birthday.

“You had cardboard in your shoes and great big holes in your socks if you had a pair,” he began.

“You never knew what new clothes were. You never tasted fresh bread, the majority of your grub you got from the markets and your mum was over worked.

“That was life! We accepted it and didn’t see anything wrong with it. It’s what you’re brought up with.”

The hero spoke about his time at war and the sacrifices he and fellow soldiers all made before ending his feature with a statement that upset viewers at home.

“Its breaking my heart whats happening,” he said referring to Brexit.

“After all that struggle and all the sacrifice and to see that we’re even in danger of losing our communities as the United Kingdom, I’m against it all and I think t’s terrible.”

“It makes me want to cry to think about it, thinking we can do it alone. We can’t.

“But that’s only an old geezer talking,” he smiled as Dan and Louise thanked him for his time.

After the show Dan tweeted a tribute to the guest: “Happy birthday to the amazing war veteran Victor Gregg. 100 years old today. What a pleasure to meet him.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
