Louise Minchin: BBC Breakfast host quizzes Keira Knightley after she's late for interview

BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin, 50, highlighted that Keira Knightley, 34, was late for their scheduled interview on the show due to Extinction Rebellion protestors, who have been protesting in London this week.

But, the actress said she was “happy” to be late for the show as she supports the Extinction Rebellion campaigners.

Over the past week, protesters have been spotted in various places around London, including outside the BBC building.

Louise said to Keira: “At the moment we’re sitting here and you were a little bit late with what is going on with Extinction Rebellion.”

She then queried Keira’s opinion on the cause, adding: “What do you think of what they’re doing?”

Keira replied: “I think it’s brilliant. I was very happy to be late and stuck in traffic because of Extinction Rebellion.

“I think they’re right. We have to do something, don’t we?”

Louise then asked Keira about her thoughts on people whose journeys have been disrupted due to the protestors.

The actress responded: “There is that point of view, but we do have to do something.

“As long as it’s peaceful protests, I’m all for peaceful protests and we do need the transport system that isn’t polluting our atmosphere so we can have a world to live in, otherwise we won’t have one.”

Despite Keira’s lateness, Louise took to Twitter to praise the actress after their interview.

In view of her 167,000 followers, she wrote: “Wow Keira Knightley is a whirlwind.

“I had a brilliant chat with her today about how she is coping being a second time mum, pyjamas, protests, and her new film Official Secrets.”

Many of Louise’s followers flocked to her post to comment.

One user wrote: “Two beautiful talented ladies!”

“The two loveliest people in the world on the telly, together!” a second added.

A third commented: “Smashing interview and bless @louiseminchin for watching the time.”

Elsewhere, earlier this week, Louise Minchin revealed she had sneaked in trainers to the BBC studios.

Her secret move came after she participated in the Breca Swimrun, consisting of nine swims and nine runs, last weekend.

BBC Breakfast continues tomorrow at 6am on BBC.
