Louise Minchin: BBC Breakfast co-star Dan Walker speaks out after her ‘unexpected bonus'

BBC Breakfast star Louise Minchin, 50, took part in a charity golf day alongside Dan Walker, 42, to support Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

At first, Louise shared a picture of her alongside her team, telling her followers how nervous she was about competing in the event.

She wrote: “I was very nervous about turning up to play in this, but what a brilliantly funny day despite the rain! Thanks to everyone involved.”

The presenter then shared a picture of herself alongside the group from the Sheffield Children’s Twitter page.

She added: “Turns out triathlon gear with the addition of borrowed golf shoes works on a golf course, here are my excellent team!”

Dan also took to his Twitter to tell fans about Louise’s victory.

The regular golfer wrote: “Thank you so much to everyone who supported by @SheffChildrens charity golf day at @hallamshiregolf today.

“So many people to thank but most amazing news is… LOUISE went and won it! Unbelievable stuff.

“Trophy on #bbcbreakfast in the morning. Well played @louiseminchin.”

Louise shared Dan’s post with the caption: “Unreal. My team were fab, I just managed to hang on in with them with my borrowed shoes and clubs!

Television presenter Gethin Jones, 41, commented on Louise’s victory writing: “Well done champ!”

Louise replied: “What an unexpected bonus and lovely to see you!”

Another fan queried if Louise was bad at anything after her recent involvement in the Norseman triathlon.

She replied: “I can think of quite a few things!”

Last month, Louise Minchin described the Norseman triathlon as her “toughest challenge” yet.

The presenter’s challenge consisted of a 2.5-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, followed by a marathon.

In her column with The Times, the mother-of-two admitted she felt fitter now than what she did in her younger years.

She wrote: “I am fitter, stronger and more resilient than I was in my twenties, thirties or early forties — and I am finally proud of my muscly shoulders.

“It has also helped me feel happier, less vulnerable and to be a better version of myself while going through a tricky menopause.”

Louise went on to admit she disliked her physique as a teenager, which prompted her to give up sport.

“Growing up I had been different. I had loved sport, particularly swimming,” she added.

“I would, if I could, spend hours lapping any pool available. I loved to train and loved to race.

“But, aged 15, I gave it up. I looked in the mirror, decided I didn’t like my muscly shoulders, and stopped swimming just like that,” she explained.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
