Lorraine Kelly misty-eyed after emotional message from her parents live on-air


On today’s Lorraine it was time to celebrate as it marked Lorraine Kelly’s 35 years in broadcasting.

Piers Morgan took over at the beginning of the show, to the horror of the show’s usual presenter.

Lorraine joked: “I don’t like not being in control – it’s terrifying.”

Piers teased her by saying: “Anything could happen. Don’t panic… actually do panic!”

Things quickly became emotional however, as Lorraine got choked up over a video message from her parents.

A montage of sweet messages were played featuring famous faces including Hugh Jackman, Dame Helen Mirren, Mel B and Sir Kenneth Branagh, to name a few.

But it was the video from her parents which made the Scottish television host get teary-eyed.

An emotional Lorraine was surprised by her mum and dad congratulating their daughter on 35 years in television.

Her mum said: “We think the world of her, we don’t say it as much as we should.

“We’re not ‘lovey-dovey’ … She knows we love her.

“We’re very proud of her.”

Lorraine sobbed: “I can’t believe you got my mum and dad to do that!”

Presented with a cake which featured her beloved dog Angus, Lorraine finished the show saying: “Thank you to everybody, that was amazing.

“Piers, who was very well behaved.

“You are only as good as your team and my team are the best team ever.

“Thank you to them and thank you to all of you who have been watching for 35 years, which is quite remarkable.”
