Lorraine defends Prince Harry over his decision to miss The Queen's birthday

Lorraine Kelly has defended Prince Harry for flying out of the UK and back to his home in California hours before the Queen’s 95th birthday.

Harry, 36, was seen arriving at his Montecito mansion on Wednesday morning.

He was keen to get back to see his wife Meghan Markle who is heavily pregnant with their second child.

On medical grounds, doctors advised the Suits actress not to make the trip to the UK with Harry for the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral last weekend.

Speaking via video link from America, Lorraine’s showbiz correspondent Ross King explained: “In the past few hours he flew back to Los Angles International, LAX back then up the road to Santa Barbara.

“Obviously staying around then for his grandmother The Queen’s 95th birthday.

“I am wondering as well Lorraine. Now so much has been said about him staying or if he going to come back to LA…

“I wonder with Meghan and the little girl on the way… we heard it was around about June but I’m wondering if perhaps it would be a little it earlier?

“Maybe the birth is more imminent than we thought?”

Agreeing and supporting Harry’s decision to fly home before the Monarch’s birthday, Lorraine replied: “It could well be and for goodness sake he doesn’t want to miss that.

“For goodness sake he has to be there. It is the most important thing ever.”

Smiling, the ITV regular added: “We wish them well.”

While Meghan was unable to attend the funeral in person, the Duchess of Sussex did send a handwritten note on the wreath which was on display alongside others during Prince Philip’s funeral in St George’s Chapel, Windsor.

Keen not to be seen to bend the rules or have special treatment, the funeral was heavily stripped back and fully in line with Covid social distancing rules.

Originally around 800 mourners were expected to have been invited but due to the pandemic only 30 were able to attend.

Heartbreakingly, Her Majesty The Queen was seen sat along in the choir as the coffin of her beloved husband arrived in front of the alter.

As the Royals left the church and headed back up Chapel Hill to the castle, waring brothers Harry and William were seen engaging in polite chat after the Duchess of Cambridge appeared to break the ice.

It was the first time Harry had seen any of his family since he and Meghan Markle went on US TV to give a sit-down tell-all to Oprah Winfrey.
