Loose Women Ruth Langsford in tears as she asks government for care home visits

Ruth Langsford was overcome with emotion as the Loose Women panel delved into the heartbreaking situation surrounding care homes during the Covid-19 pandemic.

When discussing visiting arrangements on Tuesday’s Loose Women, Ruth, 60, had to hold back the tears as the chat turned to Ruthie Henshall’s campaign.

The former I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here star is fighting to see her mother, who is currently ill and in a care home.

Today’s ITV panel, which also included Judi Love, 40, Janet Street-Porter, 74, and Denise Welch, 62, deep dived into the touching subject, with all of them finding it hard not to feel sad for those missing loved ones at this time.

Following the moving conversation, Ruth gave an overview from the Department for Health and Social Care, confirming that visits were not permitted at this time.

The wife of Eammon Holmes read: “The Department for Health and Social Care have said close contact indoor visits are not currently allowed.

“While the vaccines provide protection from serious disease, we do not yet know if they prevent somebody from passing on the virus to others.

“We will be looking to ensure that a wider range of visiting arrangements are made available when it is safe to do so.”

Ruth had to pause to compose herself before she went on: “Well let’s hope that that’s soon because I think people really, really need to see their loved ones and to touch them and to hold them.”

Looking choked up, with tears in her eyes, Ruth turned to her co-star and comedian Judi who was also trying hard not to cry on air.

The entire panel were close to sobbing before Ruth intervened like a true television professional.

She went on: “Anyway, right, something fluffy and nice and funny now because we don’t want to upset you today.

“This actually did make us laugh this morning…,” before moving onto the topic of furry toilet seat covers.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
