Loose Women left shrieking over placenta fried rice claim: ‘Isn’t that cannibalism?’

As the Loose Women panel discussed keepsakes from their babies’ births, Judi Love revealed a surprising encounter with ‘placenta fried rice’.

Kaye Adams, Stacey Solomon, Katie Piper, and Judi were chatting about parents keeping first shoes, locks of hair, and baby teeth of their offspring, debating if it’s normal to keep umbilical cords too.

Stacey lamented over not keeping the entire umbilical cord, prompting Kaye – who found her own children’s in a ‘drawer’ somewhere – to joke she could ‘make a rope’.

With the panel discussing their individual keepsakes, Judi, 43, was reminded of the traumatising time she almost ate her friend’s placenta without a warning.

Judi, who has two children herself, was at a christening and tucking into the impressive buffet spread which included a ‘special rice’ which ‘everyone was talking about’.

‘I’m feeling nervous,’ chimed in Kaye who anticipated maybe this rice wasn’t what it seemed.

‘I shared out a bit of the rice and my friend next to me went -‘ Judi laughed as she mimicked her friend urgently staring at her.

She continued: ‘I said “what” and she was like “It’s placenta in there”. Yeah.’

The audience and her fellow panellists gasped as the comedian relived her own shock at the surprise ingredient.

Katie hesitantly asked if it was ‘good for the skin’ to which Judi declared: ‘I don’t know, it just wasn’t for me.’

Some people do eat their own placenta, believing it to have benefits for breast milk production, energy levels and even skin condition.

These health boosts are not proven and we’re not sure frying it with rice for the christening is common practice.

More pressingly Stacey questioned if there was a label somewhere marking it as placenta rice – but apparently, this was missing.

‘Maybe I was just being craven and I saw the buffet food and just thought “here we go baby, take that” – and I was going to eat placenta rice,’ she continued.

Katie tried to reassure her she was in the ‘circle of special friends who get the special rice’, but Judi remained firm on not wanting to be ‘that special’.

With everyone in stitches, Kaye sounded a little concerned as she exclaimed: ‘Is that not cannibalism!’

Laughing the former Strictly star said: ‘I don’t know what it is but I’m not here for it. Each to their own but if you’re going to share out placenta fried rice then please can you let people know.’

Loose Women airs at 12.30pm weekdays on ITV and ITVX.
