Liverpool starlet Kaide Gordon has declared “he couldn’t have a better role model” than Mohamed Salah as he continues to pick the brain of the “best player in the world”.

Gordon, 17, burst onto the scene in early January with a goal on his second senior appearance for the Reds against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup third round.

His well-taken strike made him the second-youngest goalscorer in the club’s history and their youngest goalscorer in the competition.

Gordon was rewarded with his Premier League debut the following weekend as he came off the bench in the 3-0 victory over Brentford.

The teenager has been tipped for greatness by Wayne Rooney, his former manager at Derby County, as well as Jurgen Klopp and his assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders.

As a left-footed player most comfortable on the right wing, Gordon sees similarities between himself and Salah and believes he is reaping the rewards of training alongside the Egyptian superstar.

“It’s helped me a lot seeing him, especially because Mo plays in my position so seeing what he does,” the youngster told Liverpool.com.

“He is the best player in the world right now, so watching him and the extras he does really helps. It pushes me to try to get onto his level.

“The different types of positions he picks up, he scores from anywhere, he doesn’t just stay out wide, he drifts inside and things like that, so that’s definitely helped.”

Salah has arguably been the greatest player in Europe this season with an astonishing tally of 23 goals and nine assists in all competitions.

He has also starred on the international stage and scored the winner as Egypt defeated Guinea-Bissau in their second group game at the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.

Famous for his electric pace as well as his sublime ball control and finishing, the 29-year-old keeps himself in phenomenal physical condition so he can cope with the rigours of football played at the highest level.

Away from the training pitch, Gordon has been shown the ropes in the gym by his older teammate and claims their sessions together “really help”.

The England Under-18 star added: “He (Salah) does a lot of work in the gym and he helps me with that as well; I’ve done some sessions with him. Mo really helps.

“I definitely couldn’t have a better role model, Mo does everything right.”

Gordon signed his first professional contract with Liverpool last October after making his senior debut against Norwich.

Meanwhile, the Reds are continuing to sweat over Salah, who has less than 18 months remaining on his deal.
