Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid LIVE: Latest score, goals and updates from Champions League fixture tonight

Follow live coverage as Liverpool host Atletico Madrid in the Champions League tonight.

The reigning champions are behind on aggregate after Saul Niguez’s solitary goal in the Wanda Metropolitano three weeks ago separated the sides in the first leg. Tonight Jurgen Klopp’s side bid to come from behind in order to keep their defence of the famous old trophy alive. They have plenty of previous of producing at Anfield, of course, with last season’s historic semi-final comeback win over Barcelona still fresh in the memory.

They’ll be hoping for some more trademark European magic again this evening but know they’ll have to be at their very best to get the better of Diego Simeone and his dogged defensive side. We’ll have all the latest throughout the evening right here:

SUBS

82 min: Oxlade-Chamberlain makes way for James Milner, who’ll inject some energy as both sets of players tire.

81 min: Liverpool work a corner short and Alexander-Arnold pulls the ball pack cleverly to Robertson, arriving late on the edge of the box. He shoots first time but sends his effort high and wide.

80 min: Brilliant from Mane, who races down the left and plays a perfect pass over Felipe’s head for Salah. The Atletico defender recovers well to stop the Egyptian as he bears down on goal.

79 min: Saul sends a volley a long way wide from around 25 yards out. Atletico, when they do come forward, are conscious of not committing too many players. They’re slowing things down now when the ball goes dead too.

76 min: Nice approach play again from Liverpool but the final ball, this time from Oxlade-Chamberlain, is the wrong one, a delicate chip to no one in particular which Oblak gratefully claims.

74 min: This is very much a case of attack vs defence now. Atletico look to be simply holding out for extra-time and penalties.

71 min: Oxlade-Chamberlain, who’s been impressive tonight, drives down the right and wins a corner off Lodi. This time it’s headed away at the near post by Felix.

70 min: Simeone is gesturing wildly on the touchline, desperate for his side to push up and relieve some of the pressure. They’re hanging on at the minute.

69 min: Another chance for Robertson! Oxlade-Chamberlain drives a low shot at goal which Oblak saves well. Robertson meets the rebound with a first-time effort but it’s crucially blocked by Trippier.

68 min: Liverpool are upping the pressure again now. An Alexander-Arnold corner catches out Oblak, who almost spills the ball into his own net. Lodi is on hand to hack it away.

66 min: Off the bar! So close to a second for Liverpool. Salah jinks his way into the box, cuts onto his right foot and shoots. His effort deflects into the path of Robertson, who heads against the woodwork from a few yards out.

64 min: Atletico appear to have weathered the early second-half storm. Simeone’s change, despite Costa’s grievances, looks to have had the desired effect.

63 min: Audacious, to say the least, from Saul, who intercepts a pass from Mane and goes for goal from inside his own half. He clearly spotted Adrian off his line, but the goalkeeper watches it land wide of the post. Not a bad effort though.

61 min: Adrian almost makes a meal of things at the other end. Atletico break and Felix hits a low shot from just outside the box. It should be routine for Adrian but he spills it, recovering just in time to smother the ball at the feet of the onrushing Correa.

60 min: Close! Alexander-Arnold sends a brilliant ball towards the back post and Firmino meets it. But he doesn’t connect with his effort and allows Oblak to get a hand to it.

59 min: Salah hits the ball against the arm of Partey and the Atletico man is penalised. Liverpool have a free kick just outside the box on the right.

57 min: Felix goes for goal from distance as Atletico get some brief respite from their constant defending. It’s a tame effort, though, and easily saved by Adrian.

56 min: Midfielder Marcos Llorente replaces Costa, to the clear frustration of the former Chelsea man. He’s not happy about his early withdrawal and kicks out in anger as he makes his way to the bench. The Liverpool fans respond with sarcastic cheers.

55 min: Robertson whips the set piece into the box and Oblak comes out again to palm the ball away.

54 min: Atletico can’t get out of their own half. Simeone looks concerned on the touchline. They give away a free kick on the left and Liverpool have another opportunity to send the ball into the box.
