Liverpool vs Arsenal LIVE: Score, goals and latest updates from Carabao Cup fourth round

Liverpool look to take a step closer to gaining more silverware this season with the visit of Arsenal with a Carabao Cup quarter-final place up for grabs.

The Gunners come into this tie short of confidence with a divided fanbase after a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Unai Emery is under big pressure and defeat at Anfield could push the Gunners closer to a mid-season change.

HALF TIME: Liverpool 2-3 Arsenal

Quite the first 45 minutes we’ve had here at Anfield; youthful brilliance on show in attack, youthful inexperience on show in defence. Five goals, one penalty and lots to look forward to after the break.

45′ – What a chance! Elliott down the left, brilliant cross, Origi header…just over the bar!

43′ – Lallana booked for a late sliding tackle.

GOAL! Liverpool 2-3 Arsenal

Milner steps up and the captain buries it! Hard and low, to the keeper’s right. Martinez goes the wrong way. Five first-half goals!

PENALTY to Liverpool!

Elliott taken down by Martinelli in the box and it’s a spot-kick to the Reds…

GOAL! Liverpool 1-3 Arsenal

35′ – Martinelli with a brace! Elliott loses the ball outside the box, Saka crosses under no pressure and Martinelli just has to fire past Kelleher.

Liverpool 1-2 Arsenal

34′ – Not quite end-to-end here in the usual manner, but rather each team having 10 or 15 minutes of dominance at a time. It’s Liverpool again who are pressing now, with Oxlade-Chamberlain heavily involved and Brewster looking lively.

Liverpool 1-2 Arsenal

29′ – Brewster almost gets in for Liverpool, then Keita smashes a half-volley well over the bar. Elliott then clips a cross over and Brewster heads goalward, but Martinez saves.

GOAL! Liverpool 1-2 Arsenal

Martinelli with the second for the Gunners! Origi beaten by Maitland-Niles down the right, he puts it across, Kelleher can’t hold the ball and Martinelli smashes it in, high and hard. A quick turnaround here at Anfield!

Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

24′ – Yellow card for Brewster, who sticks out a leg to block Martinez kicking the ball long. Cheap one for the youngster.

Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

Certainly looked as though Torreira was a step or so offside, but this game looks very open and that surely won’t be the end of the scoring.

GOAL! Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

Good pressure from Arsenal and they’re level! Martinelli keeps the ball alive, Oxzil squares the ball and Willock shoots; Kelleher makes a great save but Torreira is on hand to tap home from what looks like a marginally offside position. No VAR here, so it’s 1-1!

Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal

15′ – Decent response from Arsenal over the last few minutes. Saka makes ground down the right before Gomez cuts out a cross, then another ball from the right wing bypasses everybody.  Oxlade-Chamberlain being booed by the away fans every time he touches the ball.

Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal

11′ – Fantastic lofted pass from Lallana to play in Oxlade-Chamberlain, but his first touch deserts him as he bears down on goal.

Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal

8′ – It’s all Liverpool in these early stages, with the midfield looking comfortable on the ball and Arsenal struggling for any fluency in their play so far.

GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal

5′ – Deadlock broken! And it’s an own goal from Shkodran Mustafi, who slides the ball into his own net after Oxlade-Chamberlain’s low cross. It’s a horrid mistake, missing it with his leading leg and bouncing the ball in off his other knee.

Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

4′ – A first sight of goal for the home side, but Harvey Elliott curls a shot well over the bar. The 16-year-old hit the woodwork twice in the third round against MK Dons.

Which of these talented young forwards will impress tonight? Martinelli has already scored in the Europa League, too; this is just Rhian Brewster’s second-ever appearance for Liverpool. Has a Champions League winner’s medal already, mind!

Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

Team News

Liverpool have confirmed that youngster Caoimhin Kelleher is set to start in goal for Jurgen Klopp’s side, while there is likely to be plenty of rotation elsewhere. Ki-Jana Hoever, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are among those potentially in the frame for starting berths.

Arsenal are also likely to give opportunities to younger players, with Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli perhaps in line for starts in the front four. Reiss Nelson remains absent, and it is unlikely that Mesut Ozil’s exile is ended.

Predicted line-ups

Liverpool XI: Caoimhin Kelleher; Ki-Jana Hoever, Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez, James Milner; Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita; Curtis Jones, Divock Origi, Adam Lallana.

Arsenal XI: Emiliano Martinez; Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding, Shkodran Mustafi, Sead Kolasinac; Joe Willock, Lucas Torreira; Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka; Gabriel Martinelli

Odds

Liverpool 20/23

Draw 14/5

Arsenal 3/1

Prediction

It is somewhat hard to predict a fixture of this nature, with the exact composition of the two sides unknown. Either side could go with a stronger line-up in a bid to progress, but Liverpool are the more confident squad, and have the added benefit of playing at home.

2-1 to Liverpool is our prediction.
