Liverpool urged to join Bayern Munich in Leroy Sane transfer race

Liverpool have been urged to join Bayern Munich in the race to sign Leroy Sane from Manchester City this summer.

German giants Bayern have made no secret of their desire to take Sane back to his homeland, with City preparing for the possibility of losing the £90million-rated winger.

And Liverpool ought to target Sane instead of Wolves winger Adama Traore, according to former City ace Danny Mills.

Sane returned to training recently having been sidelined since suffering a cruciate ligament injury in City’s Community Shield win over Liverpool at the start of the season.

Before his injury he was a key player for City, helping them win seven major honours in two seasons, including successive Premier League titles, and scoring 39 goals in 134 games for the club.

Leroy Sane was back in training in February having missed the entire Premier League season so far

And Mills says the 24-year-old Germany international’s title-winning experience gives him the edge over Traore.

“Adama Traore makes a lot of headlines because of his pace and power but to step into a title-winning side, to replace somebody like Sadio Mane or [Mohamed] Salah – I do not think he is there yet,” the former City right-back told Football Insider.

“Somebody like Leroy Sane – possibly. He is coming back from injury and has been linked with a move away recently and could be surplus to requirements.

“He is young, a great talent and has experience. That would be more realistic but I do not know if Manchester City would sell to rivals.”

Sane’s contract at City expires at the end of next season, so City may have to accept a price for him this summer rather than lose him for nothing next year.

The pacey winger is an undoubted talent, but faces competition for a place on City’s left flank from Raheem Sterling.

Sane would face similar competition at Liverpool from Mane, but could be targeted with an eye on the future and to provide back-up to the Senegal international.
