Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds face Thiago competition from Man City

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will be focused on finishing the current season as strongly as possible.

The Reds have been Premier League champions for a couple of weeks now but there are appear to be no signs in dropping the intensity that earned them a first-ever Premier League title.

However, there will need to be a long-term strategy in place to ensure that Klopp’s side continue to operate at the pinnacle of world football.

In order to do that, there may need to be action in the transfer market to strengthen while at the very top and today’s transfer rumours suggest that there could be action both in and out for the club this summer.

Here are the latest Liverpool transfer rumours.

Weston McKennie is attracting Premier League attention

Liverpool linked with Schalke’s McKennie

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie.

According to CBS Sports, via The Boot Room, the Reds are monitoring the defensive midfielder’s situation with a number of other Premier League clubs interested in signing the 21-year-old.

McKennie has been a key figure for David Wagner’s side this season and frequently captained Schalke despite being a relatively young still.

With Liverpool’s midfield options set to change this summer, McKennie could be a suitable replacement for Adam Lallana, given promising signs of development in the Bundesliga so far.

Thiago is set to leave Bayern

Man City and Juventus join race for Liverpool target Thiago

Manchester City and Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Thiago Alcantara this summer, amid interest in the midfielder from Liverpool.

TuttoJuve, via Daily Mail, report that the 29-year-old has received interest from both City and Juventus despite other reports claiming that Klopp’s side have advanced their pursuit to sign the Spanish midfielder.

The Bayern Munich man has just one year left on his current contract with the German champions and is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League.

If competition is to increase for his signature, the likes of City and Juventus could provide different opportunities for the midfielder to ponder.

Reds eye relegated La Liga defender

Espanyol’s Leandro Cabrera is believed to be registering the interest of Liverpool after the defender’s side was relegated from La Liga.

The centre-back has gathered interest from a number of clubs in recent weeks and the Reds are the latest to be linked, according to Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness.

Liverpool’s reported interest in the 29-year-old is believed to be in the very early stages but Cabrera could be the type of defender Klopp is looking for to add depth in central areas.

With the future of Dejan Lovren uncertain and Joel Matip’s injury worries continuing, the addition of a centre back could be a key focus for the Reds in the upcoming transfer window
