Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds close on goalkeeper, Griezmann on radar

Liverpool may still be feeling the warm glow of being Premier League champions, but the lack of transfer activity has been a concern for some Reds.

Jurgen Klopp has added Greek defender Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos.

While rumours persist that Thiago Alcantara is a target for the club, there has not been any significant developments just yet.

Instead, the talk is that Gini Wijnaldum and Rhian Brewster could leave the club with Wijnaldum a target for Barcelona and Brewster attracting interest from several clubs that want him on loan. With that in mind here are the latest transfer rumours for Monday, September 7.

Antoine Griezmann could be offloaded after just one year at the Nou Camp

Liverpool eyeing Barcelona superstar

Liverpool are on alert after Lionel Messi’s decision to stay at Barcelona threw Antoine Griezmann’s future into doubt, according to the Daily Mail.

The French international had been guaranteed the Messi role by Ronald Koeman, but Messi’s u-turn regarding his future has cast doubt on what future Griezmann has at the club.

The Spanish giants will have to trim their squad to accommodate Messi, and that could see Griezmann leave the club. He joined Barca from Atletico Madrid in a £107million deal and managed just nine goals in La Liga.

The report states both Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have all taken interest in the forward. The Reds have previously watched Griezmann, and while any deal would be a significant investment, they will continue to monitor the situation.

Sheyi Ojo will play in England’s second tier next term

Liverpool youngster completes Championship loan

Sheyi Ojo has joined Cardiff City on a season-long loan deal.

Ojo, 23, spent last season on loan at Scottish giants Rangers, and his move to the Welsh capital will be the sixth loan move of his Reds career. He managed five goals in 36 games for Steven Gerrard’s side last season, but he was quick to admit he has a point to prove with Cardiff.

“I’ve got a point to prove and I’m really excited for the new challenge,” Ojo told Cardiff City TV.
“Cardiff City is a massive club with great fans and great players – hopefully I can show what I can do here and fit right in.

“Wherever the ball is, I want to be involved in the game as much as possible. I’m delighted to get here in time for a full week’s training with the team ahead of the first home game this Saturday. Now it’s important that we start right.”

Promising goalkeeper nearing Anfield move

Liverpool are close to signing Fluminense goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga, according to UOL.

Pitaluga, 17, is a Brazil youth international and is currently on the books of Fluminense in his homeland. The teenager has a German passport that will bypass any issue with work permits, with the player himself in line for a significant pay rise at Anfield.

The report states that the Brazilian club are keen to negotiate a sell-on clause and that a deal is edging closer.
