Liverpool transfer gossip: Reds 'aim to beat Barcelona' to Bundesliga left-back


Liverpool’s quiet transfer window hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from turning, and new name was linked with the Reds on Friday.

Catalan publication Sport say that the Reds are going head-to-head with Barcelona for the Augsburg left-back Philipp Max, with the 25-year-old lined up to provide cover for either Andy Robertson at Anfield or Jordi Alba at the Nou Camp.

Max is yet to be capped by Germany at senior level, but was part of the German side that won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Barca are said to have pulled out of a move for Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo, who has also been linked with Liverpool , with Wolfsburg’s Jerome Roussillon also on their radar.

Leverkusen slap huge fee on Havertz

Staying in Germany, Bayer Leverkusen are set to want €100million for their young talent Kai Havertz, who has been linked with the Reds in the recent past.

Havertz is seen as one of the top talents in the Bundesliga, and he already has three Germany caps at the age of just 20.

The attacking midfielder scored 20 goals in 42 appearances last season, and has reportedly turned down a switch to Bayern Munich due to concerns over a lack of playing time.

Reds vs City for Turkish goalkeeper

Goal.com say Liverpool and Manchester City are looking at Fenerbahce goalkeeper Berke Ozer, with the 19-year-old also being looked at by Basel.

Ozer has featured in two senior Turkey squads, but is yet to make his debut at that level.

Liverpool are relatively short on the goalkeeper front at the moment, with Simon Mignolet their only senior stopper on he club’s pre-season tour of the US, where veteran goalkeeper Andy Lonergan has been added to the squad in order to help with training.
